EXPOSING LIES IN OUR HISTORY EDUCATION

HELP AVAILABLE FOR HISTORY TEACHERS

Another lie put out for the history books.

Recently on kpfk-fm on the Democracy Now show, Amy Goodman played again her2004 interview with the constitutionally elected Haiti President Aristide, which they recorded after he was removed from Haiti.  She no doubt has that interview archived and available. Aristide denies the claim by the United States government that he resigned and says the United States removed him with a military coup.  The resignation story was a lie.  The U.S. government sent the military to seize the airport in Haiti, surround the Presidential Palace, and force him onto an airplane to be flown out of Haiti.

Exposing lies in history is the focus of my new anti-war educational video.

I remember high school history was very boring.  As a history teacher, I would love such a video, since whatever your views, its entertainment value cannot be denied.  The students will love it. The light of truth can be provocative.

As my contribution to the cause of peace, for a limited time while I can, I offer my anti-war educational video FREE for any teachers willing to try to help stop the superwars.

Stopping wars is the noblest of goals, but most people say we cannot end war. Okay, maybe we will never end all wars, but can we perhaps at least stop the big international wars like the World War, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq—the superwars which have killed so many millions?

Fraud has been used to start the superwars.  No person of intelligence wants to be swindled. I believe teachers could make a difference by exposing these frauds.  The sons of the rich and the elite have to attend school and college. Our purpose should be to bring the light of truth into their learning about history and war.  I want to offer support to any teachers willing to do so.
This 20-minute video HOW TO JUMP START YOUR WAR is a satirical look at the four similar deceptive protocols used to start each of the last four big international wars: World War Two, Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq. America was involved in all four of those wars, so the study is appropriate for United States history, a required subject in American high schools.

In my observation, films and videos promoting peace generally appeal only to the faithful. But most people of all political stripes do not like being defrauded, and this animated and historical video is about giving college and high school classroom exposure to what might possibly be the four biggest frauds of the last hundred years.  Please note that among the four rulers primarily responsible for those four big wars, there was one fascist, one communist, one Democrat, and one Republican. War is an equal opportunity enterprise.
For a limited time, as my contribution to the cause of peace, I am offering to send a free DVD of my video to any professor, instructor, or teacher to check out for possible use. Please send name and mailing address, school or institution and subject taught, to alankentgorg@yahoo.com.

Bless you for your effort.

TECHQUA IKACHI DIRECTOR STATEMENT

DIRECTOR ALAN GORG’S STATEMENT

The Hopi elders changed my life.  I had been in many civil rights demonstrations during the sixties, but  nothing impacted me like the 90-year-old Hopi man throwing himself in front of a bulldozer, risking his life to stop electricity from coming to the last traditional Hopi village of Hotevilla.   Capitalism and communism were competing savagely to prove which could better provide such modern conveniences to the most people.  The Hopi traditionals were opting out of the game.  They would have to pay for those services by exploitation and pollution of their land.

Photography was prohibited at that scene on the Hopi reservation, so our documentary footage was limited, but the incident provided the nucleus of our docudrama film EARTH SPIRIT, where prophecy like that of the Hopi and other indigenous peoples warns against exploitation and pollution of their lands.  Arizona has seen many decades of  protests and demonstrations by the Hopi and Dineh against pollution of the land and ground water by uranium mining.  Today those demonstrations are more frequent and growing stronger.

.

Issues of James Kots’ newsletter TECHQUA IKACHI (“Land and Life”) can be found on the internet.  http://www.jnanadana.org/hopi/issue_21.html

James was co-creator for AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A HOPI.

We combined the two stories into a single film, as the docudrama did develop out of the short.  We use that same slogan TECHQUA IKACHI also taken by our Committee for Traditional Indian Land and Life in the late sixties and early seventies.

The Hopi elders educated me, but by example.  They never tried to teach nor evangelize their beliefs, but I saw while staying among them their hospitality and kindness.  They endured many abuses of their hospitality but never reacted in anger.  I found autobiographical accounts of Hopi childhood   I learned their record of a thousand years of peace, which makes the records or so-called civilized societies look barbaric. The Hopi endured blazing hot summers and freezing winter storms in one of the harshest deserts to produce a society far more mellow than ours.  But as the film indicates, money is persuasive.  Most of the Hopi people appreciated the traditional point of view but, like most people everywhere, want what modern industry can provide.

Another eye-opener the Hopi elders gave me was their rejection of the democratic system of voting for a federally created Tribal Council.  I came to agree with them that majority rule can be tyranny of the many over the few.  Traditionals operate by consensus.  Disagreements are worked out by compromise.  They would go down into their underground kiva and not come back out until the matter was resolved to the agreement of all.

We were even motivated to become small farmers and did so for nearly ten years, but found like the Hopi, that family farming is an extremely tough way to make a living in the face of modern agribusiness.

SYNOPSIS OF THE FILM TECHQUA IKACHI

In the film TECHQUA IKACHI: ABORIGINAL WARNING–EDUCATION EDITION (44 minutes), indigenous people resist the exploitation and pollution of their ancestral lands by oil and mining interests.   In their prophecy, drilling and mining Mother Earth brings disaster, and the truth and accuracy of that prophecy is being proven in the rising specter of global warming from carbon.

Part One: AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A HOPI, historical documentary (10 minutes)

A young boy is taken away from the land by the federal government to go to school, to factory work, to unemployment, to war.   He finally chooses to return to tradition and a more natural life.

Part Two: EARTH SPIRIT, prophetic docudrama (34 minutes)

A troubled city teenager of mixed ancestry is drawn back home to help defend the land, and an elder risks his life to stop the mining because of ancient prophecy that harming the earth will bring doom to humanity.  But many indigenous people want the material benefits of modern industry.  Tribe and family are split apart as traditionals blockade the main highway to protest mining and drilling.

All around the world, indigenous peoples are protesting the drilling and mining that has invaded their lands.  Like Al Gore, many are concerned about the effect of global warming on their health and well-being, but few think about the health or well-being of those suffering right now at the sources of our energy and metals.

1. WHY STUDY THE HOPI?

PREPARATORY READING AND DISCUSSION

American history taught in our schools and colleges omits the one American society with the most outstanding record of peaceful co-existence ever in human history. . . .

No other society since the rise of agriculture has ever enjoyed anything near a millennium of peace . . .

Similarly, the accuracy of Hopi prophecy is unmatched by any other prophecy. There are many Doomsday predictions based on moral and spiritual failings, but the Hopi prophecy is directed specifically against mining and drilling into the Earth.

. . . following the history of the Hopi and their ancient prophecy could serve as a spiritual example for a simple life which may be the only way to control the present danger of global warning and save human society.

2. DVD film Part One: AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A HOPI

In this documentary film is described the kidnapping and indoctrination of Hopi children but also a return to Hopi tradition.

3. HOPI HISTORY

Pueblo Indians occupied most of what is now Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona for centuries and built and later abandoned many pueblo towns. The Hopi town of Oraibi is the oldest continuously occupied spot in the western hemisphere, with ruins dating back over a thousand years.

The Hopis became known to the Europeans in 1540 when Coronado dispatched Franciscan friars to visit the Hopi villages.  The Hopis have seldom resorted to arms and even today accept the impositions of visitors with courtesy.  Nevertheless, the Spanish failed to convert the Hopis to Christianity.

The Hopi people have never entered into a treaty with any European or American government from that  time to the present. The harsh desert helped keep the Spanish at bay, and the Mexican government and later the United States government made no further efforts at armed conguest.

Eventually, however, in the late nineteenth century, the U.S. moved in agents.   The government and missionaries  persuaded many Hopis to send their children to school as a means to gain material wealth.

FROM THE BEGINNING OF LIFE TO THE DAY OF PURIFICATION:

“. . . you are leaving my protecting arms and destroying yourselves. From the breast of your mother, the Earth, you  receive your nourishment, but she is too dangerously ill to give you more food. What will it be? . . .

Will you cure your mother’s ills?”
